Some races offer beer at the finish line, some offer hot chocolate, but the new Couch or 5K race has chosen doughnuts as its post-run treat.

On April 22, beginning at 9 a.m., there will be a 3.1-mile run through The Woodlands. The grounds – which include an 18th century garden, a 19th century cemetery and the Hamilton Mansion – are located on the west bank of the Schuylkill River.

Once runners finish the loop, they can head into a pop-up lounge by the Mansion with couches, coffee and Dottie's Donuts' vegan doughnuts.

Top runners will receive prizes and all runners will get T-shirts, unlimited food and drink at the pop-up and runner's memberships to The Woodlands.

Registration is $35 per person, with a portion of proceeds going to the creation of a pet pantry in partnership with My Dog is My Homean organization dedicated to providing safe spaces for homeless people and their animals.

Since the event is called Couch or 5K, you don't have to run to participate in the day's activities, though. The pop-up lounge will be open before, during and after the race for spectators who make a $20 donation.

All who attend are also asked to bring non-perishable items for the pet pantry. Donors will be entered into a raffle for prizes from local businesses.

Those with dogs are invited to bring them to the race, too.
