This time, ESPN decided that they had enough of former Phillies ace Curt Schilling, who also pitched for the Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks, and Houston Astros.
After sharing a highly controversial anti-transgender meme on Facebook Monday, Schilling then took his personal blog to defend himself, calling those offended by the post “gutless cowards” among other things. He eventually deleted the post in question, but ESPN responded Wednesday night by terminating the 49-year-old's contract. The company released this statement:
ESPN is an inclusive company. Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated.
Schilling, who was suspended last year for another controversial social media post, had worked at ESPN as a baseball analyst since 2010, both in the booth and studio. His 2015 suspension led to him being replaced by Jessica Mendoza on "Sunday Night Baseball."
