The Penn Museum will celebrate International Archaeology Day on Oct. 15 with a full schedule of family-friendly activities.
There will be behind-the-scenes tours, activities in Penn Museum's Center for the Analysis of Archaeological Materials (CAMM) room, an "Indiana Jones"-style obstacle course, mosaic making, storytelling and opportunities to ask archaeologists questions.
Scheduled events:
11 a.m. "Roman Myth Storytelling"
11:45 a.m. Guided tour of the Rome Gallery
Noon "Ask an Archaeologist"
12:30-1 p.m. Interact with "In the Artifact Lab" conservators as they work
1 p.m. Behind-the-scenes CAAM tours begin, leaving every 15 minutes
1 p.m. "Interactive Mosaic Workshop"
2:30 p.m. "Ask an Archaeologist"
3 p.m. "Roman Myth Storytelling"
3:30- 4 p.m. Interact with "In the Artifact Lab" conservators as they work
Throughout the day, attendees can try on Roman Militia gear, tackle the obstacle course (which features a rolling "boulder," snake pit and spiders) and view touchable artifacts from Rome.
Archaeology Day events are free with museum admission, which ranges from $2-$15 per person.
