Deadline nears for DNC2016 internship program

Interns will get a behind-the-scenes look at the planning of the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia

Area college students interested in an inside look at the American political process have three days to apply for internships with the Democratic National Convention Committee.

The internships will provide students with the opportunity to work closely with DNCC leadership and staff as they plan the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. They are open to all students who are 18 or have completed one year of college, but preference will be given to students from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 8, and selected interns will be notified no later than the week of May 2.

The convention will be held from July 25-28 at the Wells Fargo Center. The Democratic National Convention Committee, led by the Rev. Leah D. Daughtry, CEO, is responsible for all aspects of the planning and execution of the gathering, from housing delegates to convening Platform Committee meetings and producing the convention’s live programming.

About 50 students will work as interns from June 1 to Aug. 5. Class credit is available.

DNCC interns perform a wide range of responsibilities, including assisting senior staff, preparing memos, attending meetings and events, answering phones and greeting visitors, and assisting with special projects.

"We at the Democratic National Convention Committee are looking for enthusiastic and engaged people for our 2016 Internship Program," said a DNCC spokesperson. "Interns will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with DNCC leadership and staff in helping make the Convention an historic success."

Applicants will be selected on criteria that include commitment to community service, a high level of professionalism, and excellent communication, writing and computer skills.

Limited financial scholarships are available to help offset costs for qualified individuals who are selected to participate in the internship program. Applicants will have the opportunity to pursue a financial scholarship as part of their application process.

Applicants will need to complete an internship application and submit a current resume and two letters of recommendation. Those materials can be submitted through the DNCC website.
