The Delaware Valley's most distinctive jobs

Vox map shows gas compressor, mathematician, and chemist as most prominent in trig-county area

A new map from Vox shows the most distinctive jobs in every U.S. state.

The map used data from the Labor Department to find which jobs are the most prominent in every part of the country, finding what profession is the most disproportionally concentrated in each state as opposed to the rest of the U.S.

In the Delaware Valley, there's apparently a lot more people working in gas, math and chemistry than everywhere else in the country. Here's the most distinctive jobs for the tri-state area:

• Pennsylvania: Gas Compressors
• New Jersey: Mathematicians
• Delaware: Chemists

Vox notes that Business Insider put together a very similar map in April. However the creator of the Vox map says that Business Insider came up with different jobs for several states for an unknown reason.

That study came up with the same profession for Delaware, but different jobs for Pennsylvania and New Jersey:

• Pennsylvania: Survey Researchers
• New Jersey: Marriage and Family Therapists
• Delaware: Chemists

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a chemist in Delaware makes the most money of those five jobs, with an average salary of $136,250. A survey researcher in Pennsylvania makes the least, with an average salary of $40,800.
