Camden double homicide under investigation

City slayings now at nine for the year, most in past few weeks

A man and woman, each in their 20s, were killed in a double homicide inside a building on North 26th Street in Camden Monday afternoon.

Police responded at 1:42 p.m. on Monday to a 911 call.

Officers found Camden city residents John Valerio, 23, and Aleshia Hill, 25, with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at 2:02 p.m.

The investigation into the shootings is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

Kevin Callahan, a spokesman for Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo, did not immediately respond to a question about the homicide solve rate in the city. The two slayings bring the total number of homicides in the city to nine for 2016.

The majority have happened in just the past few weeks.
