Eagles sign DT Gabe Wright

The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Monday that they signed former Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Gabe Wright, a former fourth-round pick.

Wright is listed at 6'3, 299 pounds, and has eight tackles in his two-year career, which includes 12 games played and one start. Wright's time in Detroit does not overlap with Jim Schwartz's tenure there.

Here is Wright's scouting report (via NFL.com) coming out of Auburn in 2015:

Teams have an issue with his lack of production in 2014, but his initial burst off the snap can't be dismissed. Wright has been in a defensive-line rotation at Auburn over the last two seasons, but has never really shown an ability to be a run-stuffer. Wright is a fit in a penetrating scheme, but he must continue to improve as a pass rusher.

The Eagles' current defensive tackle depth looks something like this:

DTFletcher Cox Destiny Vaeao Elijah Qualls (R) Winston Craig (R)
DT Tim Jernigan Beau Allen (injured)Gabe Wright Justin Hamilton

Wright's penetrating style makes sense in Schwartz's scheme, but he is likely little more than a guy trying to compete for a job.
