Eagles agree to terms with QB Nick Foles on two-year deal

Nick Foles is coming back to Philadelphia. The team announced on Monday morning that it had agreed to terms with the now-veteran quarterback on a two-year deal. Doug Pederson was Foles' quarterback coach when Foles was a rookie in 2012.

Foles, of course, had that one magical 2013 season in which he threw for 29 touchdowns (including the playoffs), just two interceptions, and a 119.2 QB rating on his way to the Pro Bowl, where he won MVP honors.

After a shaky 2014 season, Foles was traded along with a second-round pick to the then St. Louis Rams for Sam Bradford. Foles was awful as a starter with the Rams in 2015 (QB rating of 69.0), before signing with Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. And now he's back.

The Eagles' current backup quarterback, Chase Daniel, has been the subject of trade rumors since the start of free agency. If the Eagles were to trade Daniel, they would shed $6 million of the $8 million cap figure he'll have in 2017. It feels unlikely that the Eagles would sign Foles (or that Foles would want to sign in Philly) if the plan were to keep Daniel.

"Having someone in the room to rely on and to talk to about things is important," said Howie Roseman of Daniel last Friday. "It's important for a starting quarterback to have. Does it change from year one to year two? When you talk about Carson, he's the guy now, and having the ability to do that through the mini-camps, through the whole offseason, through training camp, his leadership is going to show, and he's been through it. He's gone to Seattle, he's gone to Dallas, Washington, New York, so he's seen all those things, so he has that. But you still want someone who's been through it, and Chase certainly provides that."

So does Foles. Stay tuned.
