Nerd Nite Philly is a monthly lecture series that generally takes place on the first Wednesday of each month. Topics can span really anything, as long as the information shared has an academic purpose.
February's lecture will take place at Frankford Hall and one focus of the night will be on the history of the Delaware River. Author Hal Taylor will host the discussion and use illustrations from his book, "The Illustrated Delaware River," through the presentation.
During the Nerd Nite, attendees will learn the history of civilization along the River, who founded and named it, which explorers were the most infamous, what oily fish have to do with the River and many other tidbits.
Daniel Sanford, a systems administrator and former librarian, will also present at the event and share his knowledge of 20th century horror fiction author H.P. Lovecraft.
Find out who H.P. Lovecraft was, why his work still resonates with people today and where it can be found in popular culture.
Finally, rounding out the night will be a presentation on a short-lived show called "Thundercats LIVE!" The Philadelphia Civic Center hosted the performance back in 1987 and it's mostly been forgotten about, until now.
Attendance to the show costs $5 per person and guarantees happy hour specials through the lecture.
