First Philadelphia Burlesque Festival shows off local talent

Classes, performances combine for two-day celebration

In celebration of the city's evolving burlesque community, three veteran performers have created the Philadelphia Burlesque Festival. Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30, Plays & Players Theatre in Center City will be filled with showcases of local talent.

The Peek-A-Boo Revue and Ray Gunn will headline Friday night's event while international star Sydni Deveraux and Lulu Lollipop headline Saturday night. Both nights feature performers with names like Hazel Honeysuckle and Cherie Sweetbottom. 

A pre-festival kick-off party will be held Thursday, May 28 at Underground Arts. Tickets for the party are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. 

On Saturday, May 30, InterAct Theatre will host four classes on the art of burlesque. Subjects range from how to get booked for a gig to how to move like a dancer and each class is $20.
