Former Germantown Academy swimmer sues school, alleges abuse

Suit alleges Montgomery County school tolerated physical and mental abuse

A former swimmer who trained at Germantown Academy has filed a lawsuit against the Montgomery County school, alleging the school tolerated physical and mental abuse, CBSPhilly reports.

The lawsuit alleges then-coach Dick Shoulberg pitted the plaintiff against another swimmer, who beat up and urinated on the then-eighth-grader and threatened him.

The suit claims the school "allowed the swim coach to stay on despite numerous claims of abuse during his tenure," CBSPhilly reports.

The school has said it will "cooperate openly and fully" in the case. Germantown Academy enrolls students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
