Four big events to disrupt traffic in city this weekend

Another event will close an Old City block on Thursday evening

Four big events, including two parades, will impact traffic in Philadelphia over the weekend.

Another event, a food-oriented street festival, will close one full block on Thursday evening.

Here are the details, according to police:

THURSDAY

The stretch of 2nd Street between Market and Chestnut streets in Old City will be closed from about noon to 10 p.m. for the Old City Eats Kick-Off Street Festival. The event, held by the Old City District, runs from 5 to 8 p.m. A police detail will be assigned to the festival, but traffic in the area could be heavy at times.

SATURDAY

• Kelly Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Schuylkill Navy Regatta. Traffic will be detoured from the Strawberry Mansion Bridge to Fountain Green Drive. Southbound Kelly Drive traffic will be detoured up the Strawberry Mansion ramp to Fountain Green Drive, via Reservoir Drive. Northbound Kelly Drive traffic will be detoured up Fountain Green Drive, along the same route. Detour signs will be posted along those routes, and delays are expected to be minimal.

• The Juneteenth Parade will step off in Center City at noon. The parade will form up at 11 a.m. at Washington Square Park, on the 6th Street side, between Walnut Street and South Washington Square. It will start south on 6th Street to South Washington Square; west on South Washington Square to 7th Street; north on 7th Street to Chestnut Street; east on Chestnut Street to 5th Street; north on 5th Street to Market Street; west on Market Street to 6th Street. The parade will stop for about 20 minutes at 6th and Market streets for a ceremony for unmarked graves of African ancestors. Then the parade will proceed west on Market Street to 7th Street and then north on 7th Street to its destination, the African American Museum at 7th and Arch streets. A police detail will be assigned to the parade, but traffic in the area could be heavy at times.

SUNDAY

• The Gary Papa 10K/5K/1Mile Run-Walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the start of the 10K race on the north side of Eakins Oval and proceed east in the center lanes/inner lanes of the Parkway; clockwise around Logan Circle; back along the center lanes of the Parkway to the south side of Eakins Oval; and proceed up the Martin Luther King Drive to the turn-around, just north of Montgomery Drive; then back down Martin Luther King Drive to the finish line in front of the Art Museum.

At 8 a.m., the 5K will start on the north side of Eakins Oval and proceed east in the center lanes/inner lanes of the Parkway; clockwise around Logan Circle; back along the center lanes of the Parkway to the south side of Eakins Oval; and proceed up the Martin Luther King Drive to the turn-around, just south of Girard Avenue Bridge; then back down Martin Luther King Drive to the finish line in front of the Art Museum.

At 8:30 a.m., the 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk will start on the north side of the Oval and follow the 5K Run course.

All detours, east of 20th Street, should be open no later than 10 a.m. The area immediately surrounding Eakins Oval and the rest of the Parkway should be opened by about noon. Police will be assigned to the detours around the race route to assist motorists, but delays in the area should be expected.

• The Philly Pride Parade and Festival will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The parade will form up at 13th and Locust streets and proceed east on Locust Street to Washington Square; north on West Washington Square; then angle right onto 7th Street; north on 7th Street to Market Street; east on Market Street to Front Street; south on Front Street, crossing the Chestnut Street Viaduct to the entrance to the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. A police detail will be assigned to the parade, but traffic in the area could be heavy at times.
