A ranking of the world's best universities was unveiled this week and four Pennsylvania school made the cut.
The Times Higher Education, a London-based magazine, released its 13th annual World University Rankings on Wednesday.
The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia was the highest-ranked school in the state at No. 13.
The other Keystone State schools were Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh at No. 23, Penn State University in State College at No. 68 and the University of Pittsburgh at No. 80.
The rankings were based on 13 performance indicators in five key areas: learning environment, volume of research, influence of research, the school's international outlook and ability to transfer knowledge.
The United States was the most represented country on the list, boasting 148 of the 980 schools.
However, the United Kingdom's University of Oxford topped the list to end the California Institute of Technology's five-year reign.
Stanford University, the University of Cambridge and Massachusetts Institute of Technology rounded out the top five.
