Man recaptured after escaping police custody in South Jersey

Authorities have captured a suspect who slipped free from police custody on Saturday as he was being transported to a detention facility.

The New Jersey State Police said Daniel Newman, 22, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was arrested Saturday night at the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City for theft and other related offenses.

While handcuffed, Newman was being transported to Atlantic County Justice Facility but was able to escape police custody. He was last seen fleeing on foot into the woods.

Officials said Sunday afternoon that Newman is back in police custody, but no additional details were immediately available.
