For all of the excitement, relaxation and important business long-distance travel allows, packing and protecting belongings can make the experience cumbersome.

Given the growing use of technology to power the rise of smart home systems, it was only a matter of time before innovation reached the luggage we take with us out of town.

Startup company Bluesmart has an Indiegogo site for a carry-on bag that will eliminate fears of theft while keeping your essential devices charged on the go.

Among the bag's features is a Bluetooth lock system controlled from a smartphone and capable of automatically locking in the event of separation. There is also a USB port, charging hubs for up to two devices, and a GPS tracker to follow the bag in the event that it is lost, stolen or re-routed.

To prevent that crushing moment when the airline tacks on a hefty checking fee because your luggage exceeds the weight limit, Bluesmart's bag comes with a built-in scale controlled by its handle.

So far, the company has raised over $2 million and plans to begin shipping orders in October. Since durable luggage tends to pricey, the $299-$450 range on Bluesmart's bag may well be justified by the added support for technology and security.
