Hundreds of tax return forms found in Philly street

Hundreds of tax returns have been found blowing around in a Philadelphia street.

Yvette Santiago contacted NBC Philadelphia when her husband found hundreds of tax documents on 1900 block of East Cheltenham Avenue in Wissinoming on Saturday morning.

Once the Santiagos found out that the papers were tax returns — with social security numbers, names and other personal information listed — they collected as many of the papers as they could.

“For the people who have documents here this could turn into a nightmare,” he said. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. You can actually file a false tax return and get a refund. IRS paid out over $5 billion last year in false refunds from information that was stolen.”

Police suggested that NBC Philadelphia contact the IRS about the matter.
