Reading Terminal Market is gathering independent ice cream shops together under its roof for an ice cream social.

On Saturday, July 29, spend the day celebrating the best of the bunch: Bassetts, Franklin Fountain, Little Baby’s, Lil' Pop Shop and Zsa’s.

There will be no less than 15 ice cream specials during the all-day event, which runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go ahead, have ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Be on the lookout for a chocolate funnel cake topped with ice cream, chocolate-dipped ice cream sandwiches, waffles and ice cream, ice cream whoopie pies and ice cream floats.

There will be an ice cream eating contest, too, and demonstrations on how ice cream is made. Philadelphia has a rich ice cream history. Bassetts is the oldest operating ice cream company in the United States.

For little ice cream lovers, there will be arts & crafts, where kids can make a sprinkles necklace or an ice cream magnet.

The event will also feature ice cream shuffleboard and a photo booth.

Reading Terminal's party is free to attend; pay-as-you-go for ice cream.
