15 concerts you should see in April

Spring has sprung and the city's concert venues are booking up. From local legends to teen pop stars, this month live music is blooming all over Philly. We'll tell you what to check out this month; all you have to do is clear your schedule. 

Dana Fuchs

If you've seen "Across the Universe," the musical film based on songs by the Beatles, you'll recognize Dana Fuchs. She played Sadie, using her Janis Joplin-esque vocals to sing "Oh! Darling," "Helter Skelter" and "Don't Let Me Down." She's now touring in support of her 2014 release "Songs from the Road."

Vilebred

The Philadelphia Folksong Society presents local experimental rock band Vilebred, featuring musician Kurt Vile's brother Sam. The John Galla Band, an original music collective, singer Alec Stewart and indie rocker Chelsea Sue Allen will also perform.

Cody Simpson

Eighteen-year-old pop star Cody Simpson rose to fame much in the way Justin Bieber did: boyish charm and YouTube videos. The Australian heartthrob has been charming teen girls ever since. Simpson visits Philly and a few other North American stops before heading on a European tour this spring.

Tangiers and Klozapin

Local rock and blues foursome Tangiers is in the midst of a tour as they play their hometown. Playing alongside them is psychedelic shoegaze band Klozapin, now supporting their debut LP.

The Ting Tings

Katie White and Jules De Martino make up this British musical duo. Their indie pop-rock sound blew up when their singles "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and "That's Not My Name" hit the radio in 2008. Electro-soul duo Kaneholler will open.

Light Years

Though their pop-punk style is most often associated with teenage bands, the 20-somethings of Light Years have kept their sound in tact. Instead, they just traded teen-angst for grown-up problems and kept evolving. Chicago-based Bonfires and South Jersey's Dryjacket will also appear.

Lee Ann Womack

Country superstar and Grammy winner Lee Ann Womack will grace Philly with her presence this month. The "I Hope You'll Dance" singer is known for her raw emotion and powerful voice. Womack was recently nominated for a Best Country Album Grammy for her seventh album "The Way I'm Livin'."

Kid Ink

The tattoo lover (hence his stage name), YouTube star, rapper and singer-songwriter has collaborated with stars like Usher, Chris Brown and Fifth Harmony. You can hear his song "Ride Out" on the "Furious 7" soundtrack. He tours in support of his album "Full Speed."

Home Free

If you're a fan of "Pitch Perfect" or Penn Masala, you'll love Home Free. The a capallea country group won Season 4 of "The Sing-Off" and they've been performing together for nearly a decade. Their debut album "Crazy Life" features everything from a Johnny Cash cover to a Hunter Hayes medley.

WXPN's Key Fest

The radio station's online news source The Key presents a three-day lineup of local acts. So far the lineup includes The Lawsuits, Slingshot Dakota, Commonwealth Choir and Brielle but there are still special guests to be announced.

Black Horse Motel

Local Americana band Black Horse Motel bases their sound in folk music. They'll share the night with Hannah & Maggie, a folk-pop harmonic duo and West Philadelphian Americana duo Wild Orphan.

Gary Nuñez & Plena Libre

This 12-piece, Grammy-nominated Puerto Rican band will have you dancing in your seats. They'll combine soulful songs with a horn section, hand drummers and the African rhythms that had such an influence on Puerto Rican music for one exciting night.

2cellos

If you think seeing two cellists perform would be boring, you haven't seen 2cellos live. Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser gained a following rocking out to songs like Muse's "Supermassive Black Hole" on YouTube and Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" on "Glee." They've even toured with Elton John.

An Evening with They Might Be Giants

Brooklyn's resident alternative rockers are having a banner year; every Tuesday in 2015 the cult favorite 80s band will release a new song for free online and they'll later combine the songs into three albums. In the meantime they're touring around the U.S. through the end of May.

Jazmine Sullivan

R&B and hip-hop artist Jazmine Sullivan took a few years off from the music biz, but she's back with a new album called "Reality Show." The album features slow burning self-confidence anthem "Mascara" and single "Dumb" featuring Meek Mill. You may know her from her 2008 single "Bust Your Windows."
