Lots up in the air regarding snow on Thursday

Snow may be on the way later this week.

A weather system will move into the region late Wednesday night in Thursday bringing rain at first before possibly mixing with and then changing over to snow.

A period of accumulating snow is forecast to occur after the changeover to snow, forecasters said.

Hazardous travel conditions are possible late Wednesday night and Thursday, impacting the morning rush.

Snow could seem unlikely Wednesday afternoon, as the area basks in unseasonable mid-60-degree temperatures, but the mercury will fall into the low 30s after sunset and looks to remain there Thursday, forecasters said.

According to the National Weather Service, 2 inches of snow is most likely in Philadelphia with 3 inches in Doylestown, Bucks County. An inch or two is possible from the upper Delmarva into parts of southern New Jersey.

Snowfall amounts in the southern counties should be less than an inch, but there is only moderate confidence in the snowfall forecast at this point, forecasters said. They noted there is uncertainty regarding the arrival and departure of the precipitation and how long the cold will stick around.
