Colin Kaepernick’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, announced in a surprise move Friday afternoon that Kaepernick and Panthers safety Eric Reid reached a settlement in their collusion lawsuit with the NFL.
Kaepernick filed the lawsuit in November 2017 against the league, accusing the league’s team owners of colluding to keep him out of the NFL.

The season prior to Kaepernick filing his lawsuit, Malcolm Jenkins and other members of the Eagles joined Kaepernick’s protests during the national anthem.
Torrey Smith, who you’ll remember played a season (and won a Super Bowl) with the Eagles, also was outspoken in his support of Kaepernick and his former teammate Reid.
But Reid famously had beef with Jenkins, and the way Jenkins handled being a front-facing leader of the protest movement. Reid felt Jenkins had co-opted the movement and then sold out when he agreed to stop protesting in exchange for the NFL donating millions to social justice causes. Kaepernick voiced his support for Reid during his spat with Jenkins.
So what did Jenkins have to say about Friday’s good news for Reid and Kaepernick?

Jenkins being supportive is relatively unsurprising for a couple reasons. Jenkins has repeatedly said he supports Reid and Kaepernick no matter what, and wishes they were treated fairly by the league.
He has also, writ large, been someone who spreads positivity instead of sowing division since joining the Eagles.
What comes next for Kaepernick should certainly be interesting, considering, as Smith pointed out, we might never know the full details of the settlement.
