Diver rescued by Coast Guard off Jersey Shore, airlifted to Philadelphia

A man needed to be rescued by the Coast Guard after a diving incident off the Jersey Shore.

The incident occurred Sunday around 10:45 a.m. about eight miles east of Barnegat Light, New Jersey.

Authorities say a crew member of the vessel Dina Dee was injured in a diving incident.

A 47-foot Motor Lifeboat (MLB) crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light was dispatched to the scene. The crew transported the injured man to medical personnel at Station Barnegat Light.

The man was then airlifted to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in University City where his condition is unknown.

"Always paying attention to people around you and being able to recognize signs and symptoms of possible medical problems is very important," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Paul Zimmermann, the coxswain on the MLB. "Luckily we were nearby and able to assist in getting him to proper medical care."

Officials did not identify the man or detail how he was injured.
