Philadelphia is neck and neck with Milwaukee and Detroit in a race to win the White House’s Healthy Communities Challenge and, with it, a visit from President Barack Obama.
According to a press release from the city, Obama notified officials of Philadelphia's current standing - third place - among the 20 cities across America competing in the challenge.
To win the challenge, cities must enroll the largest number of their uninsured population before the Healthcare Marketplace open enrollment deadline of Jan. 31, 2016.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Mayor-elect Jim Kenney announced Tuesday a strategy to leap into the lead.
“Residents can simply call 3-1-1 to find enrollment assistance in their community before the January 31 deadline,” Nutter said, adding that by dialing the code, an operator will help find a free, in-person enrollment appointment for you in your neighborhood.
The press release also noted that city employees have been encouraged to provide guidance to city residents about the upcoming enrollment deadline.
