Off-duty Philadelphia officer who shot teen son identified

Philadelphia police have identified the off-duty officer who shot a family member on Labor Day night in Northeast Philadelphia.

Officer Dorion Young shot his 19-year-old son after a verbal and physical altercation at his home on the 2700 block of Taunton Street, police said. 

A 24-year veteran assigned to the 15th District in Mayfair, Young has been placed on restricted duty, police said.

According to police, Young twice fired his .40-caliber, semi-automatic pistol twice, his son in the abdomen and back. The victim was taken to Aria Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported in the incident, police said.
