Officials ID police officer who died after massive heart attack at CJC

The Philadelphia police officer who suffered a massive heart attack and died Tuesday morning at the Criminal Justice Center has been identified.

Officer Douglas Bamberger, 41, a 16-year veteran of the department, collapsed about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to a department statement. Members of the sheriff's and police department attempted to resuscitate him until medical personnel arrived on scene. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital where he died just after 10:40 a.m.

In a statement, Police Commissioner Richard Ross extended his "deepest condolences to the family, friends, and law enforcement family of Officer Bamberger.”

Bamberger, who was assigned to the Court Liaison Unit, is survived by his wife and two children.
