Pa. man admits to killing girlfriend's cat for scratching him

An eastern Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges Thursday after he admitted to killing his girlfriend's cat because it scratched him, Lehigh Valley Live reports.

Scott Deater, 24, of Bethlehem, told police he killed the 1-year-old black cat on July 7 at his girlfriend's apartment on the 600 block of Ramblewood Lane in Freemansburg.

Deater told police he threw the cat against the walls of the home and into a full tub because he knew it disliked water.

Police arrived at 2:33 a.m. to find a dead wet cat with a bone sticking out of its leg and blood splashed on multiple walls and floors.

According to defense attorney Christopher Spadoni, Deater says he "blacked out" during the incident and has anger management issues. Deater also allegedly sought psychological treatment but was rejected by Northampton County authorities.

Deater will appear for sentencing on Jan. 8. He also faces criminal mischief charges in a separate case.
