PATCO will soon be offering free wireless access for riders at all stations on its high-speed commuter line, Courier-Post reports.
General Manager John Rink announced Wednesday that free Comcast Wi-Fi service will be available for laptops and mobile devices at every station by early October.
Some cell phone service is also expected in tunnels soon afterward.
In addition, Verizon is nearing completion on cellular access for Verizon customers in PATCO tunnels in Haddonfield and between stations in Camden and Philadelphia. This also will be a first and is the result of PATCO responding to requests from passengers who have clamored for these services for years.
PATCO will not be charged by technology companies to offer the services.
According to John Hanson, PATCO president and CEO of the Delaware River Port Authority, Verizon actually is paying PATCO through a lease agreement that includes a monthly leasing fee.
