Woman struck by SEPTA bus dies after Chestnut Hill incident

Police say incident remains under investigation

One of two female pedestrians struck by a SEPTA bus in Chestnut Hill last Thursday has died of her injuries, authorities announced on Tuesday.

Police said 76-year-old Elizabeth O'Malley, of the 800 block of East Horton Street, died Saturday after sustaining broken ribs and brain hemorrhages, police said.

O'Malley and a second victim, a 50-year-old woman who has not been identified, were struck last Thursday afternoon by Route L bus at the intersection of Germantown and E. Gravers Lane. Both women were walking northbound in the eastbound crosswalk when the front left tire of the bus hit them both.

Medics took the women to Einstein Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. The second victim remains listed in stable condition with injuries to her left hand and left knee.

Authorities said an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
