A Penn State died after being hit by a car near the university's main campus Monday.

According to State College police, 23-year-old Michael Eiben was crossing North Atherton Street around 10:45 p.m. when he was struck by a motor vehicle being operated by 27-year-old Joel Berger.

Eiben was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center and then flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, where he passed away.

The Associated Press reports that Berger has not been charged and it did not appear that either man had been drinking, however, tests were being completed to confirm that.

Eiben, a graduate of North Allegheny High School near Pittsburgh, was working on a master's thesis in engineering, according to AP.

Police said the incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the State College Police Department at 814-234-7150,
