The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced this week it will look to hire hundreds of temporary workers statewide as part of its winter maintenance program.

Facing a shortage of snow plow drivers, PennDOT seeks to bring on individuals with commercial driver's licenses class A or B, as well as diesel mechanics to service the truck fleet.

While the majority of available positions are for temporary workers, PennDOT has provided testimonials from two employees who wound up turning the seasonal gig into a career.

Meteorologists aren't yet clear on what this winter projects in terms of snowfall. The Philadelphia region as a whole sees an average of about 22 inches of snow per year.
