A Pennsylvania man has been arrested in connection with the death of his mother, whose body was found in a creek in Bradford County.

Hours after the body was found, the man, Matthew Haverly, had appeared on the local TV news to talk about the discovery, and acted like he was none the wiser about what had happened.

According to WNEP, the body was found in the Wyalusing Creek near Camptown on May 31. WNEP reporter Kristina Papa went to the scene and interviewed Haverly, who lives across the street from where the body was discovered.

Haverly seemed to be surprised by the discovery. Per WNEP:

"I'm like, 'What the hell is going on?' And now I realize that's what they were actually doing. I had no clue. It's sad to say that that's someone's either daughter, mother or whatever," Haverly had said.

...

"I think it was some kind of a hit, and something happened. Something went bad, and this is like a rural area, so they just wanted to plant the body somewhere else besides wherever the hell they were from," Haverly told Newswatch 16.

He alluded to it possibly being related to gang violence and even said he thought his mother would be concerned about the body being found in their community.

The body, it turned out, was that of 60-year-old Patricia Haverly — Matthew Haverly's mother. Pennsylvania State Police arrested Matthew Haverly hours after he gave the interview and allege he had killed Patricia Haverly. CNN reports that police have charged him with criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse.

"That's kind of weird, you have people like that running around," neighbor Mark Beattie told WNEP after Haverly was arrested.

Patricia Haverly reportedly died from head trauma. Matthew Haverly is being held without bail at Bradford County Correctional Facility and has not yet entered a plea, according to Inside Edition.
