Philly watchmaker introduces $27,500 timepiece made from 'moon rocks'

'One small step for man, one giant leap for man time'

A local artisanal watchmaker known for using unusual materials is offering a $27,500 watch made from genuine moon rocks.

At least, that's what they're telling people on April Fools' Day.

Philadelphia-based Analog Watch Co. claimed on Friday that it would start selling the Lunar Watch, "the world's first timepiece made of a solid piece of genuine moon rock."

The tagline: "One small step for man, one giant leap for man time."

Claiming to have a "special partnership with the Russian Federal Space Agency," the company says that it obtained moon rocks collected by a Soviet Luna probe in 1974 and used them to create 25 of the most unique timepieces in the universe.

The watches will supposedly come with a "certificate of authenticity." Considering that last April Fools' Day the company claimed to be selling a watch filled with ants, that certificate may not mean much.
