Please Touch Museum brings 'Star Wars' to Earth

The Please Touch Museum knows the force is strong in the Millennial generation. That's why they're celebrating Star Wars Day again this year on Sunday, Aug. 23. The museum holiday brings together young fans of the series and their families for an afternoon of galactic fun.  

All day guests are welcome to dress up as their favorite characters and bring their light sabers. Fully dressed "Star Wars" characters will hang out around the Museum from noon to 3 p.m. At noon and 2 p.m. guests can operate a life-sized R2D2 Unit by remote control in Centennial Depot. 

From noon to 4 p.m. the Program Room will have "Star Wars" regalia to dress up in, themed toys to play with and space-themed books to read. They'll also have a large model of the Millennium Falcon that guests can help paint. At 4:30 p.m. "A Far, Far Out Dance Party" will take place in Hamilton Hall to round out the day.

While children and their adult supervisors are welcome to Star Wars Day, the Museum urges that the day of play is specifically for children. Unfortunately, they've had to repeatedly clarify this because, according to the event's Facebook page, single adults, sans children, were planning to visit the children's museum to participate in the "Star Wars" activities planned for children. Apparently, some adults were offended by the idea that today's children might be fans of the series of their own accord.
