Philadelphia police are investigating after the burned remains of a human body were discovered Monday inside a closed restaurant nearby the Philadelphia Mills Mall in Northeast Philadelphia.

Authorities said the body was discovered at the former Sushi Kingdom restaurant located in the 400 block of Franklin Mills Circle.

Construction workers found the body, identified only as a male, while completing repairs at the property, police said.

Investigators have not yet determined how the body got into the restaurant or how long it had been there prior to Monday's discovery.

An investigation remains ongoing.
