Police chase on I-76 shuts down highway; suspect in custody

A police chase Tuesday ended on the Schuylkill Expressway, clogging up the highway and leading to several arrests, according to reports.

6ABC reports the Tredyffrin Township police were trying to stop a car along Route 202, but the driver of the vehicle fled. Police pursued the vehicle onto I-76 east, eventually stopping the car near Belmont Avenue.

Adam Joseph, a reporter, tweeted that he was stuck behind the police activity from the chase.

According to CBS3, seven people are in custody. Initially, authorities searched a wooded area near the highway because one suspect was believed to have escaped.

Traffic was slowed on the highway in both directions for several hours.
