A man is in custody after police say he stole a donation box meant to collect money for children from a Delaware convenience store.

Authorities announced Saturday they had arrested Craig E. Beckett, 50, of Rehoboth, for the theft that occurred last month.

Police say they were notified of the stolen donation box from the 7-Eleven on the 500 block of Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach by an employee of the store.

A responding officer reviewed surveillance video, which police say showed Beckett in the store on Feb. 22.

In the video, police say Beckett waits until the cashier isn't looking and swipes the box, hiding it under his Green Bay Packers jacket.

When police went to arrest Beckett at his place of employment in Lewes, Delaware, Beckett asked his co-worker to hand him a Packers jacket before being taken into custody, according to authorities.

Police say Beckett confessed to stealing the box during an interview.

Beckett has been charged with theft and arraigned. He was released on $500 unsecured bail and a no-contact order has been issued between Beckett and the 7-Eleven.
