The Philadelphia Police Department gave a shoutout Tuesday on Facebook to one of its officers for his efforts to make a difference in the community.

Officer Sammy Sanchez has raised over $8,000 in the past few months in order to donate iPads to six Philadelphia schools who work with kids with autism.

Sanchez raised this money while also raising his son, who faces some of the challenges of autism, according to the post.

The officer noticed what a great help a program called Proloquo2Go (available only for iOS) has been for his son and decided to start a program to get as many iPads into Philadelphia schools as he could.

Through his program, "Bowling for iPads," Sanchez was able to raise $8,000, with which he purchased 36 iPads. He then loaded the iPads with Proloquo2Go software (a $200 cost).

"Great work, Officer Sanchez. All of us here at the PPD salute you!" the Facebook post said.
