An investigation is underway after a man was arrested Tuesday in an officer-involved shooting in the Ogontz section of North Philadelphia, police said.
Mike Marsenat, 22, of Ogontz, was apprehended following a foot chase during which an officer fired four shots, missing all of them, the Philadelphia Police Department announced.
Authorities said the incident began on the 5800 block of Old York Road where two officers from the 14th district saw Marsenat operating a 2002 Gold Chevy Malibu without headlights. When an officer approached the vehicle, Marsenat fled on foot. One officer pursued on foot while the other followed in the police vehicle.
After turning into a driveway, Marsenat allegedly displayed a firearm. The officer exited the police vehicle and ordered the suspect to drop the weapon. However, the suspect refused, prompting the officer to fire two shots. Both rounds missed.
Police said Marsenat then took cover behind a parked vehicle. After Marsenat refused another order to drop his weapon, the officer fired another shot that missed.
The chase continued toward 15th Street where another missed shot was fired by the officer. After that gunshot, Marsenat dropped the weapon on the 1400 block of West Chew Avenue and was arrested at the intersection of 15th Street and West Chew Avenue.
Marsenat sustained cuts on his palms and knees during the chase. He was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was treated and released.
No other injuries were reported.
Police recovered the weapon, which was loaded and later discovered to be stolen in 2009.
Both officers will be placed on administrative duty pending an investigation by Internal Affairs.
The District Attorney's Office will also review the case.
