A South Jersey woman was arrested for allegedly possessing 250 bags of heroin while attempting to board the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, police announced Tuesday.

Dawn Corcoran, 45, of Lower Township, was taken into custody on Oct. 1 at the ferry terminal in Cape May, the Delaware River and Bay Authority police said.

Authorities said Corcoran approached the security checkpoint with a purse. As an officer attempted to conduct a search, Corcoran snatched the purse and tried to flee to a nearby bathroom. When she eventually agreed to a search, the officer found a tightly wrapped rectangular cube of black tape.
