Police: Woman stabbed inside SEPTA elevator in Kensington

Victim treated for puncture wounds to shoulder and leg

Philadelphia police are investigating after a woman was stabbed Saturday afternoon inside an elevator at SEPTA's Huntingdon El station in Kensington.

According to authorities, the incident occurred after a 30-year-old female victim stepped inside the elevator on the 2600 block of Kensington Avenue, according to NBC 10.

Once the woman entered the elevator, she was followed inside by an armed male suspect, police said. The woman told authorities that the suspect demanded money before stabbing her in the left shoulder and left leg. As she began to bleed, she told police, the suspect rifled through her pockets for cash.

When the elevator reached the platform, the victim, who had fallen to the floor, crawled out and screamed for help. She was transported to Episcopal Hospital to be treated for puncture wounds and is listed in stable condition.

Police described the suspect as a man between 36-38 years old, about 5'8'' with a medium build and a light beard. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket, black pants and a gray skull cap.
