A South Jersey couple has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars in audiovisual equipment from their job and selling it online, authorities announced Thursday.
According to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, Gustavo A. Gomez, 42, and Donna Gomez, 59, both of Voorhees, worked for a Moorestown-based company that sells and rents audiovisual and lighting equipment.
An 18-month long investigation began when the company discovered paperwork was being altered to conceal stolen items.
They found that some of their inventory items were being sold on an online auction website at a discounted price while the two were working there - Gustavo A. Gomez as an audiovisual inventory control manager and Donna Gomez as a general manager.
Prosecutors say they their investigation found that the couple had stolen $322,968 in equipment and sold it online between 2006 and 2014 through 107 auctions.
They've been charged with theft by deception, computer criminal activity and conspiracy to commit theft by deception.
The two were jailed on Dec. 21 and released after posting $50,000 full bail each, and their case has been referred to a Burlington County Grand Jury for possible indictment.
