Putting ketchup on your hot dog should be illegal, police joke

Here's a Philadelphia law that would split the city's taste buds.

The Philly Police Department's Twitter account joked for National Hot Dog Day on Wednesday, July 19, that although putting ketchup on your dog isn't illegal, "it should be."

This seems to be partly in line with the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council's "do's and don't" etiquette page:

Don't...

Use ketchup on your hot dog after the age of 18. Mustard, relish, onions, cheese and chili are acceptable.

Personally, I've never understood why people take issue with what other people choose to put on their food. Food debates are always fun, like the great "is a hot dog a sandwich" question.

But what someone else wants to use as a condiment? Who cares? I personally think ketchup on a hot dog is gross. But if you don't like mustard, that's your prerogative. The people who chide their friends about what they top off their hot dog with are probably the same people who order expensive IPAs at the bar and scoff at the guys sitting next to them drinking Yuengling Lager.

All that being said, Yocco's in the Lehigh Valley is the best hot dog place in the state, country and world, and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.
