Report: Claude Giroux to undergo hip surgery

After a subpar performance in the Flyers’ early exit from the playoffs, Jake Voracek admitted to being less than 100 percent. On the other hand, Claude Giroux didn’t.

“Yeah, I don’t know what to say,” Giroux said when asked if he was battling an injury after the Flyers exit interviews.

Giroux was largely shut down in the Flyers’ first-round playoff loss to the Washington Capitals, and there was some debate over whether the captain looked healthy. We may have just received an answer: According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, who is one of the most respected reporters covering the NHL as a whole, Giroux will have surgery.

According to CSN’s Tim Panaccio, the injury had been bothering Giroux all season but the 28-year-old forward elected for treatment rather than surgery. Both reports indicate that Giroux will be back in time for the World Cup of Hockey in September, if he makes Canada’s roster (which is definitely in question). The same goes for Flyers training camp.

Giroux had 67 points in 78 games in 2015-16.
