The Sixers’ co-managing owners dipped their toes into Premier League soccer, and now there is a report that bringing the NFL to London could be next on their horizon. From Forbes’ Mitch Lawrence:
“They’re more interested in getting the NFL in London than they are in the NBA,’’ the source said. “Their No. 1 goal is to get the NFL team in London. They want to flip the Sixers anyway.’’
Publicly, however, Harris has been very strong in his commitment to seeing things through with the Sixers, one of the worst teams in the NBA. He told the Philadelphia Daily News only two months ago: “I expect to be, and the ownership group expects to be, happily involved with the Philadelphia 76ers for many, many years to come. There’s not plans to sell it.’’
Buying the Sixers for around $285 million back in 2011 was an excellent investment for Joshua Harris, David Blitzer, and Co. Forbes estimates they could be offered “upwards of $900 million” for the team today.
It’s only one line in a much longer column, but the possibility of the Harris-Blitzer group selling the team has always been a possibility in the back of Sixers fans’ and observers’ minds. This report certainly won’t change that.
