More than 100 people showed up to a zoning board hearing on Wednesday on a controversial housing development in Point Breeze, PlanPhilly reported.
Developer Ori Feibush is once again trying to get zoning approval for 22 single-family homes at 20th and Wharton streets, which is zoned for industry. His previous proposal failed, although, in this case, he changed the proposal by adding parking spaces.
Around 90 people who attended the meeting were in favor of the redevelopment, while 15 were against.
Steven Cobb, an aide to Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, accused Feibush of paying the supporters “$50 a piece” to show up, which Feibush denied.
Johnson’s office opposes the project because of a lack of “compromise” from Feibush, said Cobb. Issues that residents brought up included density, affordability and green space.
Johnson beat Feibush earlier this year in a race for the 2nd District Council seat.
The hearing ended without a decision.
