After announcing the addition of two puppies to his family just three weeks ago, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson posted a somber message to social media Monday night announcing the death of one of them.

Over Labor Day weekend, Johnson posted about how the puppies, Brutus and Hobbs, jumped in the pool. While Hobbs was a natural at "doggy paddling," Brutus needed to be rescued.

Not long after, Brutus got sick from eating a bad mushroom. This time, unfortunately, the pup could not be saved.

In a post Monday night, Johnson said he had to make the painful decision to take Brutus off life support, noting that he wished he could have saved him one more time.

"I held his lil' paw as he was finally at peace," he wrote. "We'll always love you Brutus.. and you'll always be my lil' main man and rough housing Brute."

The actor encouraged pet owners to "be mindful" of mushrooms where their dogs play, because Brutus' passing is, "Another reminder we have to live and love as greatly as we can today, because tomorrow is never guaranteed."
