Rocky 50k run returns

Fans gather to attempt tracing Rocky Balboa's footsteps through Philly

Just how much do Philadelphians love Rocky Balboa? Enough to study the training montage in "Rocky II" to compose an accurate running route totaling 50k, and then actually want to run the course.

The Rocky 50k will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, starting at 7 a.m. on the the corner of Wolf St. and S. Lambert St.

While Balboa looks energized throughout his inspirational run, not everyone can be Philly's hero. Just as he casually runs 31 miles for his own satisfaction, anyone who wants to participate in the Rocky 50k can choose how far they want to run. The event is not an official race, no one will be timed, no streets will be closed off and anyone can opt to go off course to the nearest bar with no consequence.

The Rocky 50k is more like a community gathering, with the added bonus of grey sweatsuits and red sweatbands being the preferred dress code. Those who want to attempt the looping citywide run should come prepared with anything they will need during or after their run. The course ends at the Art Museum steps, with Old City being a midway point.
