Roxborough Memorial, Thomas Jefferson University hospitals earn top marks

Two Philadelphia hospitals earned top marks in the latest national safety report released Monday by the Leapfrog Group.

Roxborough Memorial Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital received Hospital Safety Scores of 'A' for the second consecutive grading cycle.

The Leapfrog Group is a nonprofit watchdog organization that grades hospitals across the country biannually based on the hospital's ability to keep patients safe during their stay. (Full methodology into how the Hospital Safety Score is calculated can be found here.)

Six city hospitals received 'B' grades, while six more received 'C' grades. No city hospital scored lower than a 'C.'

To help understand the grading system, the group claims that 33,000 lives would be saved every year if all hospitals performed at an 'A' level in the United States:

Pennsylvania ranked 33rd in the nation in percentage of hospitals in the state receiving 'A' grades.
