Rutgers-Newark student killed in shooting near campus

A shooting near the Rutgers-Newark campus on Sunday evening has left a 21-year-old student dead and another victim injured, NJ.com reports.

Sources told NJ.com the incident may have been a targeted attack that was drug-related and that "a substantial amount of drugs and money were found at the scene."

Rutgers Chancellor Nancy Cantor confirmed to NJ.com that the deceased was a 21-year-old economics major at the college.

Sources told NJ.com that the second victim, who is being treated at a nearby hospital, is a 23-year-old Rutgers alumnus.
