Prom season is right around the corner and free dresses will be up for grabs in Philadelphia later this week.

The School District of Philadelphia is holding its fifth annual Red Carpet Glam event on Friday. City high school students are invited to the auditorium inside the district's headquarters in the Spring Garden neighborhood.

School officials will give away 500 free prom dresses, as well as shoes, handbags and other accessories. Dresses, which run from sizes 0 to 30, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To be eligible to receive a new or slightly-used dress, junior and senior students need only show a valid student identification card from any public, private, parochial or charter school.

Students can also take advantage of free makeup tutorials at the event.

The giveaway is scheduled to run from 3-7 p.m. at 440 North Broad Street.
