Science After Hours: Franklin Institute to transform into 1920s speakeasy

'Knock twice: the password is science'

UPDATE: The event is now sold out, but those with tickets can look forward to an exciting evening. New details have been announced on what attendees can expect at The Science Speakeasy.

•Drew Nugget and the Midnight Society will be performing at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on the first floor.
•The live science show "Booze, Bettin' and Broads" will take place at 7 p.m., 8:20 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. Tickets for each performance will be available outside the museum's Musser Theater starting at 7 p.m.
•There will be a special 1920s-inspired dance featuring The Old City Sweethearts.
•Besides beer and wine, two signature drinks will be available. Opt for a gin and tonic or a glass of Champagne.
•Be sure to look out for Saint Benjamin Brewing Company, Cooper River Distillers, Philadelphia Distilling, Red Brick Craft Distillery, Boardroom Spirits, Bluebird Distilling, Eight Oaks Craft Distillers and Yards Brewing Co. at locations throughout the museum, too.

For one night only, on Jan. 24, The Franklin Institute will transform into The Science Speakeasy. Only those 21-plus will be allowed in for the Science After Hours event.

"Knock twice, the password is 'science,'" jokes the Institute on the official event page.

During the event, attendees can take part in interactive activities and live demonstrations that relate to bootlegging, betting, booze and other Prohibition era mischief.

Each Science After Hours event also includes access to many of the museum’s hands-on exhibits, as well as the opportunity to head onto the rooftop observatory (weather permitting).

Throughout the museum there will be cash bars selling wine and beer, so attendees can really get into the spirit of The Roaring Twenties.

All are encouraged to dress the part, too. Flapper and gangster-inspired attire is encouraged.

Tickets are $20 per person. Members of the museum receive a discount.

Science After Hours events usually meet capacity quickly, so if you're waiting to buy tickets, check the event Facebook page to make sure it isn't sold out yet.
